Favorite Websites

These are some of my favorite classroom websites as well as some of my favorite places to buy classroom supplies. This last is always a work in progress because I know that I will be blogging about different websites as I discover them.

Philosophy of Teaching

Education gives every individual a chance to grow as a person and to help prepare them for their future. As an elementary teacher, I will be responsible for establishing the foundation of a child’s education that they will be able to build upon in their following years in school.

I believe that all students have talents and abilities that are unique just to them. Therefore, it is my responsibility as a teacher to use those talents and abilities to enhance the learning of all the students in my classroom. It is also important that I asses student’s on a fairly regular basis to make sure that I am meeting the needs of each individual in my classroom.

I believe in a mixture of old and new age teaching methods. I believe that memorization and whole class instruction have their time and place in the learning process. However, I strongly believe in effective small group and individualized instruction in my classroom. I believe in providing rich, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences for my students; by keeping them actively engaged in the learning process I feel they will be more interested in the material.

Most importantly, I firmly believe in matching my instruction to the needs of the students in my classroom. All students learn differently, which means it is my responsibility to vary my instruction for my diversified student community.

I have known for several years that I wanted to be a teacher and I cannot wait to be in the classroom. I will be certified to teach Preschool-6th grade upon completion of my degree, but I would really like to teach 2nd or 3rd grade. I am most excited about teaching reading and language arts to my students because reading instruction helps to build a very important skill that my students will use throughout the rest of their lives.

I know that teaching will be tough, but I have a feeling that the success of my students and their “a-ha” moments will outweigh those struggles that I will face.

This is the place where all posts that have resources as well as ideas will be found. This section will constantly be a work in progress.
